Message Of Director
For the purposes of having an unique IP national policy, and enhancing a smooth cooperation between ministries and institutions concerned in preparing, disseminating, and enforcing IP Laws and regulations to comply with its commitments during the accession into WTO, the Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) was established National Committee for IPR (NCIPR) in 2008. To fulfill its duties, the NCIPR is going to set up two sub-committees, namely, Sub-committee for Enforcement, and Sub-committee for Education and Public Awareness. To bring IP in contributing the implementation of the economic development strategy of the RGC, last year the NCIPR has prepared National IP Strategy involved in six key sectors, agriculture, culture, education, health, industry and commerce, and tourism. Moreover, this year "Sub-Decree on Procedures for Enforcement of IPR including Border Measures" (procedure and duties of each agency) is being drafted. On the part of practical implementation of intellectual property enforcement, Cambodia has shown commitment under the obligations of the Paris Convention for the Protection of Industrial Property and TRIPS to protect well-known marks of the US and other countries by enforcing laws to suppress many cases of infringements and setting up effective mechanism to protect right-holders in exercising their intellectual property rights in Cambodia.
